The key to personal success? Self improvement

By Lydia Gober
Director, Career Services and Cooperative Work Experience

“Those seminars are one of your best kept secrets,” said a co-op student about the professional development seminars offered each semester by the Career Services & Co-op Program.  No secrets to these opportunities; here are free-and-open-to-everyone seminars presented by Collin College faculty, staff, and volunteers from the business community.

Could you use some help setting goals (personal and educational) for where you want to be next semester or the next five years?   Are you tired of feeling terrible due to the stress of the many hats you wear as a student, an employee, a parent?  Do you have trouble organizing yourself and your study requirements?

Professional Development seminars are offered each semester through two-hour presentations, mostly interactive, about self-management, work management, and how to survive and thrive in social and work settings.  Here are the upcoming seminars for October; mark your calendar!  No reservation needed, except for groups of five or more

  • Friday, Oct. 5, 6-8 p.m., Courtyard Campus, B115 -- “The Art of Communicating Under Pressure,” by Dick Ivy, consultant and trainer.
  • Friday,  Oct. 12, 6-8 p.m., Courtyard Campus, B115, “Teamwork in the Work Place” by Todd Benatovich, manager of professional services and sales, CompUSA Technology Services.
  • Thursday, Oct. 18, 3-5 p.m., Preston Ridge Campus, University Hall, 107, “Organizing Your Work and Your Life” by Debra Lamb, academic advisor, Collin College.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 23, 3-5 p.m., “Resume Writing for Your Next Job” by Sonya Flaming, co-op coordinator, Collin College.
  • Friday, Nov. 2, 6-8 p.m., “How NOT to Interview” by Nan Richards, director of recruitment/employment, Medical Center of Plano.

For the complete seminar schedule, to www.ccccd.edu, to Student Services/Career Services/Co-op Seminars.  Or you may contact the Career Center at Spring Creek Campus, Preston Ridge Campus and Central Park Campus to receive a print or electronic copy.
