Project Esperanza
Project Esperanza (Hope) is a districtwide initiative supported by the Mexican-American Field of Study and Foreign Languages. Working with Quinta Terra (http://www.quintaterra.org) Collin College collects and sends toys, shoes and clothes to orphans in Latin America. The collection boxes are located in every campus bookstore and the deadline for donations is Tuesday, Nov. 20. Auteur Film Series
In conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, the Auteur Film Series, “Secrets, Deceptions and Epiphanies: Fruit from the Cinematic Tree of Knowledge,” will present “Volver,” at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center. The 2006 film is rated R and directed by Pedro Almodovar. It runs 121 minutes. The story revolves around Raimunda in Madrid, who, when her aunt dies, discovers a revelation from the past. Evolution Tango Master Class and Performances
Evolution Tango will present a master class and performance at Spring Creek Campus in the dance studio A107 from noon-1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, and at the Preston Ridge Campus gymnasium (this changed to gymnasium-DS) at noon, Thursday, Sept. 27. Poetry Reading/Music Concert and Poetry Master Class
Conjunto Kimbombo, a Cuban musical ensemble, and Cecilia Rodriguez Milanés, a Cuban-American poet, will present music and poetry at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center. Lunch with invited students and faculty will take place immediately following the performance. A poetry master class led by Milanés and Kevin Meehan will take place at 2 p.m. Conjunto Kimbombo will perform during Rockin’ the Ridge at Preston Ridge Campus Wednesday, Oct. 3. Día de los Muertos Ofrenda
An altar in honor of the dead will be presented Thursday, Nov. 1-Saturday, Nov. 3 in the Spring Creek Campus Atrium. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to bring photographs, objects and decorations to put on the altar. A feast of traditional Mexican foods will be offered from 4-5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2.
