Student chosen as Leader of Promise

Collin College student and Rockwall resident Susan Blick has been chosen as a Leader of Promise by the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa. Only 30 students in the international organization were selected for the honor.
Phi Theta Kappa selects Leaders of Promise based on outstanding academic and leadership accomplishments. Each winner receives a $1,000 scholarship to complete an associate degree. Applicants must complete an application that includes recommendations and an essay.
“The 2007 essay topic, ‘Gold, Gods and Glory,’ is very complex and challenging,” Blick said. “It encompasses many global dynamics. I was overwhelmed that I had been selected.”
Blick is completing her core courses at Collin, working towards her associate degree before transferring to complete her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Following her education, she plans to seek an adjunct position at a community college or apply her education in a research field.
Blick’s studies are augmented by her work in the community. She has designed and published websites for several non-profits and currently serves as a staff reader for Carve Magazine. Prior to moving to Rockwall, Blick served on several city, county and non-profit boards in Tarrant County. In addition, two of her poems were recently selected for publication in Collin’s literary journal Forces. She works as a merchandising representative for Procter and Gamble.
“I can’t think of a better person for the Leader of Promise recognition,” Professor Betsy Brody said. “She brings passion to the classroom and brings out the best in the professor and her fellow students. She is exactly the type of student we are proud to have at Collin College.”
