Money, for some reason, is a pretty important component when college students choose their major of study. Oh yeah, it’s how people pay bills, buy gasoline and go to movies. The day of the wampum is no more. Anyway, recently the Princeton Review published the starting salaries for its top 10 most popular majors. See where you fit.
10. Journalism -- $27,646
From personal experience, this could be a little high.
9. Psychology -- $27,791
Pavlov wasn’t getting his dog food for free. He had to have been paying for it.
8. Biology -- $29,750
In the words of Sam Cooke, “Don’t know much biology” but I do know it pays alright.
7. English -- $31,169
If you want to make more, just learn Spanish. Bi-lingual employees are at a premium.
6. Political Science -- $32,999
One more dollar and they would’ve been at $33,000. Poor political scientists.
5. Marketing -- $35,321
If you don’t believe this number, just remember all those commercials that come on during “So You Think You Can Dance?” Somebody comes up with those.
4. Business Administration/Management -- $38,188
Probably a good idea to get “management” sprinkled on your resume when possible.
3. Economics/Finance -- $40,906
Money makes the world go round.
2. Accounting -- $41,110
Somebody has got to keep track of all the money that economists study and finance majors make.
1. Electrical Engineering -- $51,372
It’s where the money’s at.
