THE ARTS gallery will showcase its photography scholarship show from Monday, July 9-Sunday, Aug. 10. “Frames of Reference: Photography Scholarship Show” is an eclectic mix of scholarship student work. A reception for the exhibition is set at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 10 at the gallery, located at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. The deadline to apply for Student Leadership Academy (SLA) is 5 p.m., Friday, July 20. SLA is a rigorous semester-long leadership experience unique to Collin College. The course is designed to encourage leadership, integrity, professional development, scholarship and service. The curriculum fosters skills through lecture, guest speakers, student facilitation and team projects. The students earn three credit hours upon completion. Only 25 students will be accepted into the fall LEAD 1301 course. Students interested in the course must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and fill out an application packet. The application must be completed in its entirety to be considered for the class. There is no prerequisite for LEAD 1301. LEAD 1301 classes are scheduled every Friday from 8:45 a.m.-noon in the fall semester. LEAD 2301 classes are offered at the same time during the spring semester. Both courses will be at the Preston Ridge Campus, 9700 Wade Blvd. in Frisco. As part of the application packet, students participating in the Student Leadership Academy must submit an academic transcript, two letters of recommendation and an essay. Applications are available at the Center for Scholarly & Civic Engagement in Room F105 at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano, or online at www.ccccd.edu/sla . Oral HIV testing takes place at the Spring Creek Campus on the last Tuesday of every month. This month the testing is scheduled for July 31. There is no charge for the testing. Testing is not automatic. The representative from the Greater Dallas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (GDCADA) will conduct a risk assessment and evaluation prior to testing, as well as offer education about how to avoid risky behaviors. Current and future Collin College students have until Wednesday, Aug. 1, to apply for the Southern Methodist University (SMU) pre-admissions program. The program allows students to attend Collin College and earn core credit. All the while, they can work with SMU advisors to ensure a seamless transfer of those credits to the university. Also, students can take advantage of lecture and sporting event tickets, a DART pass, access to SMU’s library and more. Interested students must have a grade point average of at least 2.95 with fewer than 30 transferable hours or a grade point average of 2.70 with more than 30 transferable hours. Students also must complete an application and two essay questions and possibly a recommendation from a faculty member. For more information or for an application, visit
