Deadline for fall SLA classes is July 20
Student Leadership Academy (SLA) is looking for a few good students.

The deadline to apply for Collin College’s SLA is 5 p.m., Friday, July 20. Only 25 students will be accepted into the fall LEAD 1301 course. Students interested in the course must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and fill out an application packet. The application must be completed in its entirety to be considered for the class. There is no prerequisite for LEAD 1301.

Established in 2002, the Student Leadership Academy is a rigorous semester-long leadership experience unique to Collin College. The course is designed to encourage leadership, integrity, professional development, scholarship and service. The curriculum fosters skills through lectures, guest speakers, student facilitation and team projects. The students earn three credit hours upon completion.

LEAD 1301 classes are scheduled every Friday from 8:45 a.m.-noon in the fall semester. LEAD 2301 classes are offered at the same time during the spring semester. Both courses will be at the Preston Ridge Campus, 9700 Wade Blvd. in Frisco.

As part of the application packet, students applying to the Student Leadership Academy must submit an academic transcript, two letters of recommendation and an essay. Students accepted will be notified through postal mail service in early August. Further, students receiving acceptance letters to the SLA will be registered into the course by the college registrar.

Applications are available at the Center for Scholarly & Civic Engagement in Room F105 at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano, or online at www.ccccd.edu/sla . Also, contact Regina M. Hughes, the center’s director, at
rhughes@ccccd.edu or call 972.881.5900 for more information.
