Keep Plano Beautiful gave the college’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter their Volunteer in Plano (VIP) Award. The award is presented to the organization that donated the most hours and helped Keep Plano Beautiful the most throughout the year. The college’s chapter gave more than 400 hours in the fall of 2006 alone.
Collin College vocal students Michelle Ferguson, Michael Tuck and Joshua Dennis won the top scholarships and awards at the National Association of Schools of Music sponsored Scholarship Competition at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. According to judges, "Michelle was amazing; and the top of her voice was perfect!" and "Josh and Michael were the two best young tenors they had ever heard;” and “Michael was already prepared for a professional Broadway career!"
Collin College Hospitality and Foodservice Management students and professor John O’Neil were awarded for “Best Showmanship” at the 19th annual Taste of Plano April 2.
Jay Armstrong was the only community college student to compete in the Texas International Guitar Competition at The University of Texas at Dallas. Also, the college guitar ensemble placed first in the large ensemble division at the Guitar Ensemble Competition at The University of Texas at Brownsville.
Jonathan Hokit, a nine-year veteran of the Plano Fire Department and a student at Collin College, was named Firefighter of the Year recently. He is currently continuing his education in the fire science program.
