Faculty and Staff News
Dr. Nell Ard, director of nursing, passed the National League of Nursing's Certified Nurse Educator Examination. Dr. Ard joins a prestigious group of several hundred around the nation to obtain this honor.

has recently co-authored an article published in the March edition of the American Journal of Physiology titled, "The promoter for the gene encoding the catalytic subunit of rat glucose-6-phosphatase contains two distinct glucose-responsive regions."

Eight faculty study grants have been awarded for the 07-08 academic year. The faculty and their research topics include:

Salena Brody, professor of psychology, "Ghettos and gated communities: The impact of urban planning decisions on neighborhood life"
Istvan Csato, professor of geology, "Numerical Modeling of Stratigraphy"
Cary Hasler, professor of philosophy, "Ethics, Natural Law and Just War Theory in the Thought of Thomas Aquinas"
Barbara Lusk, professor of psychology, "The Back Story of Psychology: An Examination of the Personal and Social Contexts of the Discovery Process"
Cyrus Malek, professor of mathematics, "History of the Mathematics and Science"
Keith Volanto, professor of history, "Readings in African-American and Italian-American History, 1830-present"
Mary Weis, professor of biology, "Inflammation: Immune Protection or Harmful Process?"
Debbie White, professor of sociology, "The Social Protection of Children: A Cross-National Comparison"

Dr. Rosemary Karr
, professor of developmental education, received the National Association of Developmental Education Award for Outstanding Service to Developmental Education Students during the association’s conference in Nashville. This award recognizes the long-term contribution of time and energy to developmental education students by a NADE member.



Karen Musa
Karen Musa
, chair for Hospitality and Foodservice Management, was named to the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation Board. She is one of 12 educators representing kindergarten through 12th grade and higher education.

Myrtle Watkins, co-founder of the Collin College Writing Centers, was named Tutor of the Year by the North Texas Writing Centers Association March 30 at their spring conference.
