Heather Darrow
The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) awarded the college a Silver Paragon for a feature article written by Heather Darrow. NCMPR processed more than 2,100 entries from across the county this year, so the Paragon awards were very competitive. Darrow's article profiled Dena Pritchett who graduated magna cum laude from Collin College and is now a Fulbright Scholar studying nomadic women in the United Arab Emirates.

Attendees at the Live Smart! Health and Safety Fair received glucose screening as one of the services offered by area hospitals.
More than 200 participants attended the Live Smart! Health and Safety Fair 2007 at the Central Park Campus on March 2. This was the first Health and Safety Fair held at CPC. Eight medical doctors spoke on topics ranging from cardiac to women's health issues. The Learning Resources Center had a display on how to access the LRC’s health information, and our allied health programs were involved in many of the activities. Attendees participated in health testing, and the Carter Blood Center collected blood.

The Knowledge is Power lecture on global warming at the Preston Ridge Campus April 11 brought in more than 250 attendees. The featured professors speaking were Dr. Deidre Wendell, professor of political science, and S.J. May, professor of geology.


The college recently hosted two events saluting its many successful students. The Emerging Scholars program April 19 at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center. An Emerging Scholar is a student who has a "commitment to learning, who has demonstrated a special talent in a particular discipline and who has been identified by an instructor as having the potential to excel." Furthermore, the college also held its second annual Stellar Students program, an opportunity to salute the finest in developmental education students April 12 at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center.

Stellar Students were honored at a ceremony April 12 in honor of outstanding developmental education students.


Earth Day festivities were held at the Preston Ridge Campus April 17-18 with much ado about sustaining the planet. The theme this year was "Less is More ... Sustain Our Earth." It featured food, music, a number of lectures and presentations, a fun walk and run, and much more. To view a web gallery for the event, click here.

Attendees at the Earth Day celebration at the Preston Ridge Campus April 17-18 discovered how native Texan plants can supplement gardens and help ease water usage.


The college's International Day was held March 29 at the Spring Creek Campus with its usually flair and fare. Booths sprinkled throughout the campus atrium featured photos, literature, art, cultural items from various countries from all points of the globe. Also, the event featured a flag parade featuring the many countries represented, food, drink and a fashion show highlighting the cultural garb from around the world.
