| Alpha Mu Tau's officers, advisor, officer-elect and newly elected Texas Regional presidential delegate, display the awards and recognitions recieved at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Regional Conference. | By Stephanie Hall Student Correspondent
Alpha Mu Tau, the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at Collin College, was voted in to hold the Phi Theta Kappa Texas regional presidential office for the 2007-2008 school year during the Texas regional conference.
All 11 officers, the advisor, an officer-elect and a member attended the convention, which was held in Odessa, Texas, from March 22-25.
The presidential office presides over all five Texas districts, which encompasses all Phi Theta Kappa chapters in Texas. The entire Alpha Mu Tau chapter will hold the regional presidential office, and Jonathan Carey, a Collin student, will be the chapter’s presidential delegate.
Alpha Mu Tau also walked away with several other awards and recognitions:
-- The chapter was named one of the top 15 chapters in the Texas Region.
-- Alpha Mu Tau’s 11 officers were named the Texas region’s Distinguished Officer Team, and the officers are: Frank Pallone, Rachael Carranza, Carlos Valera, Jim Guin, Melinda Archacki-Sutter, Laura Perdomo, Stephanie Hall, Audrey Koehler, Danya Salinas, Chadi EL-khoury and Sidney Owallah.
-- Based on how the officers and members treated other chapters within the region during the conference, Alpha Mu Tau was given the Congeniality Award.
-- The Texas Hall of Honor for was awarded to one of Alpha Mu Tau’s most distinguished members, Diana Gonzales.
-- The chapter had to turn in a yearbook displaying the chapter’s events and activities from 2006-2007, and Alpha Mu Tau received a Yearbook Award of Merit.
-- The Pinnacle Bronze Award was awarded to the chapter for increased membership from the previous year.
-- Professor Angela Putman, the chapter’s advisor, was given the Horizon Award for outstanding service as an advisor.
-- Last, but not least, the Alpha Mu Tau chapter was recognized by receiving the 5-Star Chapter status. The number of events and activities within the school, the local community, the state and outside the Texas borders is how a chapter gains different star levels.
