Campus Dates

The college is hosting representatives from The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) during the months of April and May for those students interested in transferring to the institution. UTD general advising representatives will be at the Spring Creek Campus, Room G144, for half-hour sessions from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 4 and 18 and Wednesday, May 2 and 16. Additionally, Teresa Lynd from UTD’s Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science will advise students from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, April 4 and May 2. Dee Ellington from UTD’s School of Management will advise students from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, April 18 and May 16. Appointments require a two-day advance notice. Destination: College will host “Dependence to Independence: Transition to Parenting a College Student” on Thursday, April 5, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway. Designed for parents, this seminar will help parents develop realistic expectations as both they and their children move from dependence to independence. RSVP to

Artwork from graphic design and animation students will be the showcase through Saturday, April 7 at THE ARTS gallery. The show, “energy3,”  will feature graphic design, 2D and 3D animation, web-interactive media, game art and animation, and digital video. A reception is set for 6 p.m., Thursday, March 29 at the gallery, located at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. The Knowledge Is Power lecture series continues 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, when two Collin professors will discuss "Global Warming" in the Preston Ridge Campus Event Center, Room LC104. S. J. May, professor of geology, and Dr. D. Wendell, professor of political science will serve as keynote speakers.

Sigma Kappa Delta - national English honor society - will be holding a Fairytale Ball from 7-9:30 p.m., Friday, April 13, at the Cougar Den at the Preston Ridge Campus. Cost of entry is $5 per person.  Come dressed up as your favorite fairytale or literary character. There will be a costume contest with fabulous prizes for the best costumes. The Collin Dance Ensemble will present their spring dance concert, Spring Fling, Friday-Saturday, April 13-14, at the Spring Creek Campus John Anthony Theatre, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Performances are set for 8 p.m. both nights along with a matinee performance at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 14. General admission is $5 and tickets for students and senior citizens are $3. The Business, Information and Engineering Technology academic area, dean, faculty and Preston Ridge Campus provost, will host the Business of Studying Business Guest Lecture Monday, April 16, in the Event Center at Preston Ridge Campus. The lecture will feature William (Bill) Bowness, chairman and CEO of Wil Wilbow Corporation Pty. Ltd. based in Melbourne, Australia and currently involved in a number of residential developments in Collin County. He will present “A Personal Entrepreneurial Journey from 1:15-2 p.m. and a faculty and student reception will follow from 2-2:30 p.m.

THE ARTS gallery will host “Viewpoints 2007,” a statewide community college juried show from Monday, April 16-Saturday, May 5. A reception is set for 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 18 at the gallery, located at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. The third, and final, speaker is set for Collin College's 2006-07 Distinguished Speaker Series. John F. Haught will continue the series’s theme of religion and science with “Evolution and Faith: What is at Stake?” 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway. The lecture is free and open to the public. Haught is the distinguished research professor of theology at Georgetown University and his specialization is in systematic theology with interests in science, cosmology, evolution, ecology and religion. He is an author of more than a dozen books including “Is Nature Enough? Meaning and Truth in the Age of Science.” For information, contact Regina M. Fabian Bielinsky’s “Nine Queens” will be screened as part of the Auteur Film Series’ “Fools, Cons and Liars: Trickster Characters in Film” Thursday, April 19. The film will be shown at the Angelika Film Center, located at The Shops at Legacy, 7205 Bishop Road in Plano. The film will begin at 7 p.m. with seating at 6:30 p.m. “Nine Queens” chronicles the adventure of Marcos and Juan in selling a set of forged valuable stamps. The 12th annual Educator's Symposium is set from Friday - Saturday, April 20 - 21, at the Spring Creek Campus. This event is a conference for educators, childcare providers, administrators, teachers and parents. The keynote speaker is Dr. Joel Muro, assistant professor in the Department of Family Sciences at Texas Woman's University in Denton. He will speak Friday from 7-9 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre on the importance of play. Collin College will host the fourth annual Candlelight Vigil to bring awareness to sexual assault at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 25 at the Spring Creek Campus atrium. The event will feature author, entrepreneur and sexual assault survivor Lavinia B. Masters. Seating starts at 6:30 p.m. The vigil is free and open to the public. The event correlates with Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April and is co-hosted by the college and The Turning Point (Rape Crisis Center of Collin County.” Masters is a member of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and a national speaker for the Rape and Incest National Network (RAINN). She also serves as a volunteer for the Friends of the Family Denton County and the spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department Sexual Assault Cold Case Program (SECAP). Quad C Theatre will conclude their 2006-2007 season with "How I Learned to Drive," by Paula Vogel. "How I Learned to Drive" is a wildly funny, surprising and devastating tale of survival as seen through the lens of a troubling relationship between a young girl and an older man. "How I Learned to Drive" is the story of a woman who learns the rules of the road and life from behind the wheel.  Winner of the 1998 Pulitzer Prize.  Directed by Robin Armstrong. Please note: The play is a potent and convincing comment on a taboo subject. Therefore this show is not recommended for children. "How I Learned to Drive" will be presented by Quad C Theatre at Collin College, in the Black Box Theatre. Performances are April 26-28 and May 2-5 at 8 p.m., with matinees on April 29, May 5-6 at 2:15 p.m. Tickets are $8 for General Admission, $6 for Students and Senior Citizens (55+). The 2006-07 Auteur Film Series, “Fools, Cons and Liars: Trickster Characters in Film,” continues Tuesday, May 1, with “Boudu Saved From Drowning.” The 1932 Jean Renoir film focuses on Boudu, a Parisian tramp who is saved from drowning by a gentle bookseller, Mr. Lestingois, who takes Boudu in. Mrs. Lestingois and the maid, Anne-Marie, are less than delighted about the new house guest. The screening is free and open to the public. It will be held at 7 p.m. with seating at 6:30 p.m. at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center. The film runs 84 minutes and is not rated. Collin College will hold commencement ceremonies at 7 p.m., Friday, May 11, in the main gymnasium at the activity center at The University of Texas at Dallas.
