Quad C Theatre continues their 2006-2007 season with the interactive musical revue "Don’t Rock the Jukebox," conceived by Brad Baker and Mark Mullino. An interactive evening of music from Broadway, pop, rock, gospel, country and rhythm and blues, "Don't Rock the Jukebox" is an inventive revue of material voted on by the members of the audience. Each performance is unique, as the patrons select which songs are performed, and by which performer. Directed by Brad Baker with musical direction by Mark Mullino, and choreography by Kelly Songy-Nelson. Collin photography students’ work from a recent trip to Big Bend National Park in May will be on exhibit at the Plano Municipal Center and Plano Centre. The showcase is titled “Around the Bend.” The exhibit will be at the Plano Municipal Center, 1520 Avenue K, in Plano through Friday, March 2. The photographs will then be moved to the Plano Centre, located at 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway and can be viewed from Tuesday, March 3-Friday, March 30. Both venues are open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and the exhibit is free and open to the public. The college will host Live Smart! A Health and Safety Fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday, March 2, at the Central Park Campus in McKinney. The free event is open to the public and will include health and safety information, a blood drive, a fire safety trailer, seminars and speakers. Topics will include breast cancer awareness, cardiac health, strokes, smoking, headache, sports injuries and much more.
Collin will host two Transfer Fairs in March with a who’s who list of universities slated to attend. The first fair is set from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, at the Preston Ridge Campus Founders Hall Atrium. The second fair is set from 4:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, in the Spring Creek Campus Atrium. Students can take advantage of this opportunity to have their transfer and university life questions answered by several college representatives at one time. Students will be able to ask questions of the representatives about transferring, financial aid, university bound programs, etc. Please ask students to bring a copy of their transcripts for advising. The Auteur Film Series, "Fools, Cons and Liars: Trickster Characters in Film," continues with a presentation of "Pacific Heights" at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 22, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center in Plano. Directed by John Schlesinger, the film chronicles a battle between a pathological, sadistic tenant and two homeowners, who learn they must save their lives in addition to their property. The 15th annual Collin Jazz Fest is set for Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31 with special guest tenor saxophonist Bob Mintzer. Mintzer has been nominated for 13 Grammys, winning once in 2001 for "Homage to Count Basie." His compositions are standard among jazz bands today. He leads a New York-based big band, a jazz quartet and is a member of the Yellowjackets. Performances begin at 8 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre at the Spring Creek Campus. Fabian Bielinsky’s “Nine Queens” will be screened as part of the Auteur Film Series’ “Fools, Cons and Liars: Trickster Characters in Film” Thursday, April 19. The film will be shown at the Angelika Film Center, located at The Shops at Legacy, 7205 Bishop Road in Plano. The film will begin at 7 p.m. with seating at 6:30 p.m. “Nine Queens” chronicles the adventure of Marcos and Juan in selling a set of forged valuable stamps.
