Students: Nominate an Outstanding Professor
The purpose of the Collin Outstanding Professor Award is to recognize faculty members for exemplary teaching, as well as outstanding service to the college and community.
Students wishing to nominate a faculty member should complete a Student Nomination Form, which can be accessed and downloaded at www.ccccd.edu/professoroftheyear/ .
Nominations will be accepted until March 1.
Each year, the Outstanding Professor Selection Committee selects five Outstanding Faculty Finalists from the nominations received. After further review, one of the five finalists is selected as the Collin Outstanding Professor of the Year. This award is given to honor exceptional faculty members who facilitate student learning at the highest level, and who go above and beyond the call of duty in service to the students and college community.
Faculty, administrators, or students may submit a nomination. This year is the first in which students may nominate a professor. As such, student nominations are encouraged.
Before nominating your professor, you’ll need to be sure he or she is eligible.
Nominees for the Outstanding Professor Award must:
1. Be a full-time faculty member, and not a part-time or associate faculty member;
2. Be on a multi-year contract, or have completed a minimum of three years of full-time teaching at Collin;
3. Be teaching during the academic year in which the nomination is made and not on leave;
4. Not have received the Outstanding Professor Award during the previous year.
Professors should be nominated for their teaching excellence, rather than for simply being likeable as a person. So consider the following criteria when nominating a professor for this acknowledgement of superior abilities as an educator.
Nominate a professor who excels in:
1. Providing outstanding instruction;
2. Ability to lead and motivate students;
3. Ability to understand, relate to and interact with students;
4. Student recognition of excellence;
5. Service to and/or leadership in the college community;
6. Service or participation in professional organizations and/or community;
7. Evidence of support for the college's core values and total educational mission.
Faculty and administrators nominating a professor for outstanding professor should use the ‘Faculty/Administrator Nomination Form’ located on the college intranet, on the Council on Excellence page.
