Quad C Theatre revs up for 2006-07 season
By Sydney Portilla-Diggs Campus Correspondent
“Collin’s 2006-2007 Theatre season promises a diverse lineup of plays and musicals,” declares Collin Theatre Professor Brad Baker, “This [theatre] season, there is something for everyone.”
The 2006-2007 season begins in October with a timeless love story by Tennessee Williams, "Orpheus Descending." Directed by Gail Cronauer, the classic Greek myth inspired play documents the tragic romance between a lonely Southern Belle and a handsome young drifter, Orpheus. The bucolic Orpheus descends to rescue his love—not from Hades—but from the intrigue, gossip and violence of an irascible town. The play runs from Oct. 12-22, 2006 at the John Anthony Theatre.
Collin’s Theatre offers two socially relevant productions. One play, "Two Rooms," is a political love story by Lee Blessing. Set in a small windowless cell in Beirut, Lebanon, "Two Rooms" tells the poignant story of one man’s captivity by terrorists while chronicling the intense whirlwind of emotional turmoil his wife must endure on the other side of the world. Directed by Brad Baker, "Two Rooms" will run from Oct. 17-22, 2006 at the Black Box Theatre. Special note: For Quad C Theatre season subscribers, this production is free.
The other play "How I Learned to Drive" by Paula Vogel is a dark comedy. The 1998 Pulitzer Prize play, which is directed by Robin Armstrong, focuses on the humorous, unexpected, yet devastating tale of a troubling relationship between a young girl and an older man. The play runs from April 26-May 6, 2007 at the Black Box Theatre.
Family-friendly audiences can look forward to the holiday offering "Light Up the Sky." Written by Moss Hart and directed by New York director Rosemary K. Andress (The Shape of Things), the comedy opens with a group of pretentious New York theatre-folk believing that their new play is a flop. Immediately, they turn on one another, the production and the playwright and begin to viciously destroy themselves and dash their former hopes. The play runs from Nov. 30-Dec. 10, 2006 at the Black Box Theatre.
Conceived by Brad Baker, "Don’t Rock the Jukebox" is a uniquely interactive evening of music from Broadway, pop, rock, gospel, country and rhythm and blues. Members of the audience vote the material on; patrons select which songs are performed and who performs them. Because of this inventive stylized revue, each performance is unique. Directed by Brad Baker and Mark Mullino, the musical revue is a “true crowd pleaser” and is “perfect for all ages.” The play will be shown from March 1-11, 2007 at the John Anthony Theatre.
Quad C Theatre is located on the Spring Creek Campus in Plano.
Season tickets are on sale now. A general admission subscription includes four shows plus a free pass to "Two Rooms" for $30. A student/senior (age 55+) subscription includes four shows plus a free pass to "Two Rooms" for $23.
