Faculty and Staff Spotlight
 |
| Deborah Cardenas | Deborah Cardenas Professor of Biology
Bachelor of Science - Biology, Texas Woman's University Master of Science in Science Education - Biology, Texas Woman's University Master of Education, Texas Tech University
Where have you worked in the past and what was your title there? Worked as biology and chemistry teacher at United High School in Laredo and was a professor of biology at Midland College.
Name three things you are most likely to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon? Siesta….siesta….siesta
What is the best movie you have seen in the last year and why did you like it? The movie, "Pride and Prejudice," based on novel by Jane Austen, was my favorite. The scenery (England) is magnificent, had a happy ending, but more importantly, I was able to watch this movie with my two daughters and not feel disgusted (no violence, sex, drugs or bad language).
What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you? It is a time when we can reflect on significant contributions made by Hispanics. It is also a time to enjoy the music, food and language.
What is your funniest classroom story? It was not funny but was embarrassing: Walked into a lecture hall, straight to the podium, with all teaching paraphernalia like I owned the world…only to find out that I had walked into the middle of someone else’s lecture. This explained why I had not recognized any faces. I had confused my MWF with TR schedule.
If you could lunch with three people who would it be? My favorite author, Sue Grafton, a mystery writer; my favorite minister, Father Tim Church (St. Jude Church in Allen); and one of my favorite scientists, Linus Pauling (Nobel prizes in Chemistry in 1954 and Peace in 1963).
