Ceramics by Beverly Fetterman, the winner of the statewide community college juried art show, will be on display at THE ARTS gallery Tuesday, June 1-Saturday, June 30, as part of “Counter Points.” The show will be shown at the gallery, located at the Spring Creek Campus. Admission is free and open to the public. A reception for Fetterman’s show is scheduled for 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 2. Boys and girls ages 14 to 18 interested in the activities of fire-rescue personnel are invited to participate in Collin‘s Fire Science Camp, June 5-9 at the Central Park Campus Fire Academy Building, 2200 W. University Drive in McKinney. Classes take place Monday - Thursday 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m.-Noon. Campers will participate in hands-on training exercises learning the skills of professional firefighters: fire behavior, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) fundamentals, SCBA maze drills, ropes, knots, rapelling, vehicle rescues, hose handling and live-fire training. Friday‘s “graduation ceremony” will include response drills, a skills demonstration, awards and certificates. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras. Campers should be in good physical condition, willing to learn and enjoy working as a team. Campers should wear blue jeans, athletic shoes and leather work gloves. Firefighting gear and camp T-shirt provided. Enrollment is limited to 18 participants. Cost for the camp is $150, including T-shirt. Campers bring their own lunches. Cougar Tennis Camp is designed to give campers an opportunity to elevate their game to new levels. The camp is open to players from seven-14 years old. Instruction will be given by coaches and players from Collin County Community College. Curriculum will concentrate on fundamentals of tennis, drills, tactics, competitions, physical conditioning and mental training. And in addition to top-notch and personalized instruction, each participant will receive a free T-shirt. Camp I is scheduled 8-10 a.m., Monday-Friday, May 29-June 2. The fee is $75. Camp II is set from 8-10 a.m., Monday-Friday, June 5-9. The fee is $75. All Cougar Tennis Camp instruction is held at the court facilities at Collin's Cougar Tennis Complex. A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be presented by the Quad C Theatre and the City of Plano at the Oak Point Amphitheater on Spring Creek Parkway, Plano 75074. The 2006 Collin Cougar Volleyball Camp offers girls ages 8-14 instruction from one of the elite volleyball clubs in Texas. The staff of Skyline Juniors Volleyball Club will do both of camps this summer. Each athlete will receive complete instructions in setting, passing, serving, blocking, hitting, defensive skills as well as team offense and defense concepts. To ensure that each athlete is getting as much training as possible, the number of athletes per camp will be limited. Applicants will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Camp I is set from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday-Thursday, June 26-29, at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Camp II is scheduled from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday-Thursday,0 July 10-13 at the Preston Ridge Campus, 9700 Wade Boulevard in Frisco. The fee for each camp is $120. The Collin County Community College District’s 12th annual Texas All-Star Jazz Camp will be held Sunday-Friday, July 16-21 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Taught by top jazz musicians from all over the United States, the camp is open to musicians, both instrumental and vocal, ages 13 and up, who have at least one year of general experience on their instrument. Experience with jazz music is not required. Students will receive instruction on theory, improvisation, arranging and instrumental master classes. This year the camp is featuring guests Jimmy Heath and Matt Harris. The cost to attend camp is $245 for tuition and t-shirt; $285 for tuition, lunch and T-shirt. The Collin County Community College District Summer Jazz Dance Camp focusing on lyrical jazz and hip-hop will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday, July 24-28. Collin's Dance Department will also be offering an additional dance camp Monday-Friday, July 17-21. Registration costs are to be determined.
