Reference Librarian

Bachelor of arts in political science and a minor in German and German history, University of South Carolina Upstate

Masters in library and information science, University of South Carolina in Columbia

Where have you worked in the past and what was your title there?
University of South Carolina - Upstate for nine years as systems librarian.

What book are you currently reading and what is your favorite book of all time?
“The Third Man” by Graham Greene. There are many books that I've read that I could consider as my favorite of all time, so I really couldn't list them all. I collect books on World War II spies and one of my favorites is a biography on Kim Philby, a Russian spy in England.

In your profession who is your foremost influence and why?
My friend and mentor Holle Schneider-Ricks. When I was a student at USCS, I worked for her in the library as a student assistant. After graduation, she encouraged me to get my masters degree. She has and continues to be a source of inspiration for me in this field.

How long have you worked at the college?
Since Dec. 1, 2005

What do you like about Collin County Community College?
I like the size of the college and the students are very friendly here. They are very appreciative of the services we provide.

What is your funniest college story?
Since I've only been here a short time I do not have a story to relate about this campus, but I do have one from my previous university. I was teaching a library instruction class very early one morning and had the lights turned down low so the projection screen could be seen clearly. All of the sudden I heard a crash in the back of the classroom. One of the students had fallen asleep and had hit his head on the computer keyboard and practically fallen out of his seat. Of course, his classmates did not let him live that one down for quite some time. Fortunately for me, I later discovered that it wasn't my lecture that he found boring, but that he had worked third shift the night before and just could not stay awake any longer.

If you could lunch with three people who would it be?
1. I would like to speak with Condolezza Rice because of my interest in world politics. I would like for a couple of my favorite political science professors to be present. It would make for some lively conversation.
2. Kim Philby - simply because of my interest in World War II spies.
3. There are so many people I would enjoy meeting but I guess from the music world I would love to meet blues guitarist B.B. King.
