May Calendar Dates
The Quad C Theatre will present “The Mistress of the Inn” by Carlo Goldoni, adapted for the stage by Carmela Lamberti. Shows are scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, May 3-6, at 8 p.m. Matinees are scheduled for Sunday, April 30 and Saturday-Sunday, May 6-7 at 2:15 p.m. All shows are at the Black Box Theatre, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. The play features Mirandolina, the high-spirited mistress of an inn frequented by wealthy aristocrats, who are smitten by her. With her sights set on financial security, Mirandolina teaches a lesson about what love is and what love is not. The show is co-directed by Robin Armstrong and Shannon Kearns-Simmons. Collin's graduation ceremony will be 7 p.m., Friday, May 12, at The University of Texas at Dallas.
The Auteur Film Series, titled “Food for Thought,” will present “Big Night” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. “Big Night” is about Italian immigrant brothers who open an authentic Italian restaurant. After learning Louis Prima, renowned Italian entertainer, would visit their establishment, the brothers plan a feast to end all feasts. The film is 107 minutes and is rated R. Following the movie, a panel discussion led by several Collin faculty and staff will be held in order to discuss the film and its themes. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and seating is limited. The screening is free and open to the public. THE ARTS gallery will showcase Viewpoints 2006, a collection of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works from community college students across the state. The all-media show strives to encourage artistic values and recognize excellence in the creation and presentation of visual and fine art. The show will run Friday, April 14-Friday, May 5. An awards reception is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18 at the gallery, located at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano. Collin will host its Fire Rescue Camp 2006 Monday-Friday, June 5-9 at the Central Park Campus in McKinney. The camp is intended for boys and girls age 14-18 interested in the activities of fire-rescue personnel. Teenagers will participate in hands-on training exercise learning the skills of professional fire fighters. Camp participants should be in good physical condition, willing to learn, and enjoy working as a team member. Program concludes with skills demonstration for family and friends. Camp enrollment limited to 18 participants. The camp runs from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 8:30 a.m.-noon Friday. The cost is $150, including a camp T-shirt. The Quad C Theatre will present William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Thursday-Sunday, June 22-25 and June 29-July 2. Performances are at 8 p.m. at the Oak Point Park Amphitheatre across from the Spring Creek Campus on Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
