The Political Science Club of Collin screened the film “Battle of Algiers” for students and faculty Oct. 26 at the Spring Creek Campus. An overflow crowd of more than 140 students, representing all of the campuses, watched this famous film to give insight into our current war on terrorism and draw parallels to the French involvement in Algeria in the 1950's. The film was screened for the purpose of creating a better understanding of terrorists’ goals and strategies, and what tactics are successful and unsuccessful.
The Political Science Club also is sponsoring a team to compete in the 22nd annual Mock Trial Tournament. Collin’s team is already scheduled to compete with a team from Brookhaven College in Dallas County in mid-December. A successful presentation will entitle the team to an invitation to compete in the regional and/or national tournament against community colleges throughout the United States.
Young Heo, bassist in the Jazz Lab Band, was selected to be a member of the 2006 International Association for Jazz Education Community College All-Star Jazz Band and invited to perform at the international convention in January in New York City.
Liana Morrow, of McKinney, will be awarded the Dallas Area Paralegal Association Scholarship. She plans to become a certified paralegal in March and transfer to Texas Woman’s University and earn a bachelor’s degree in government with an emphasis in legal studies.
