Keys to Career Success are at Collin
By Lydia A. Gober What does "career success" look like at Collin County Community College District?
How does the staff of Career Services & Cooperative Work Experience (CSCWE) view success for those who use our services? We strive to help each person, whether student or community resident, unlock his or her potential with some keys we can provide.
"Career success" looks like Gavin, who learned he could combine sports interests and business abilities in his career by majoring in sports management after a career counseling session.
Professor Eric Carlson's business communication class said that one of their favorite class activities was the resume writing assignment with critiques by the CSCWE staff.
Eleanore, a community resident, who feels more confident about her interview skills after a mock interview through CSCWE.
Jerilyn, a nursing major, said she was able to secure a part-time hospital job after refining her resume with help from our staff.
The smile on Jack's face when he sees and hears confirming results from a career counselor that his personality and career assessments offer helpful ideas for a career path.
Real estate professor Rod Rodriguez said, "Co-op is probably one of Collin's best kept secrets. I am frankly surprised that more students are not taking advantage of this fine program." Rick, a commercial music major, took a co-op course and discovered, he ¡§can choose a career in audio engineering he loves over a job he endures in the IT industry.
Bridgette Kirkpatrick, biotechnology professor, said, "I have tried to use Career Services extensively in my courses from goals and time management presentations, to MBTI assessments. Students seem to really get a lot out of these presentations that they can take forward into the careers they are training for here."
The keys to your career success can begin at the career center at the Spring Creek, Preston Ridge or Central Park campuses. As you begin this new semester, come by and see us for key resources that might unlock a treasure chest of career information and assistance. To get started, contact Career Services & Co-op at 972.881.5781 or visit a career center.
