Plain & Fancy Ball turns educational fairytale to reality for Collin County Community College students

What does the magical story of Cinderella have in common with ... you? Picture this: one afternoon, as you sift through the day’s mail, you discover an invitation to a Plain and Fancy Ball.

Collin County Community College District and its Foundation invite the community to the county’s first-ever Plain and Fancy Ball, which benefits student scholarships and academic excellence at the college.
Everyone who is in vogue will want to attend from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2005 and sashay down the red carpet toward the new conference center at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 East Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.

This year’s Plain and Fancy Ball offers chic nouveau glamour to replace the games
of "An Evening of Monopoly." The successful Monopoly fundraiser raised more than half a million dollars and assisted nearly 800 students in its four-year run.

But what will you wear to this unique ball? While Cinderella relied on her fairy godmother for an extreme fashion makeover, you can let your imagination go to work as you design your own distinctive fashionable ensemble that combines comfortable, everyday-wear (plain) with sophisticated, elegant, “After Five” evening wear (fancy). Or you can bring the fairytale to life by sporting “After Five” attire from head to toe (fancy).

Why not pull out that treasured antique brooch or your grandfather’s top hat and wear them with your favorite casual outfit? Or, adorn yourself in high-fashion with a couture gown and your most comfortable sneakers (plain). Here are a few tips.

As the evening begins, cast your award-winning smile toward the bright camera flashes from paparazzi as you step onto the red carpet. Expect the unexpected through an array of fun, unusual and light-hearted activities throughout the evening. You can kick-up the heels of those dancing shoes with 10-minute dance lessons and then relax by listening to the musical stylings of a cool jazz band. Before the clock strikes 10 p.m., couples will be recognized as “Most Fabulous,” “Most Elegant,” “Best Couple” and “Most Creative.” There will also be awards for the winners of a dance contest.

The Collin County Community College Plain and Fancy Ball is the most unique fundraising adventure in Collin County to support the worthy cause of education. Don’t be left out — you can participate by becoming a sponsor. Sponsorship levels range from $20,000 to $1,000.

Sponsorship levels include: “Philanthropist” ($20,000), “High Society” ($10,000), “Jet Set” ($5,000), “In-Crowd” ($2,500) and “Hipster” ($1,000).

To become a Plain and Fancy Ball sponsor or for more information, please contact the Collin County Community College District Foundation, Inc. at 972.881.5611.
