TSCPA TIP SHEET
Hurricane Relief
The immediate danger has passed but clean-up and relocation will take a very long time. TSCPA has created a special section on its Web site (www.tscpa.org) dedicated to disaster recovery. There is a comprehensive list of links to the American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as well as to IRS publications and other sources of information. Whether you want to donate money or advise a Gulf Coast business in need, visit TSCPA’s virtual Hurricane Recovery Information Center for more information.

Member Recruitment Campaign
The best individuals to let nonmembers know about the Texas Society of CPAs are TSCPA members. And every member who recruits a new CPA member can look forward to a gift.

To make recruitment easy, there are online resources that explain the benefits of TSCPA membership and a convenient form to sign up online. (First-time members can join for just $119 and CPAs sworn in during 2005 are eligible for FREE membership.) Go to the Become A Member page on the TSCPA Web site at www.tscpa.org to get more information.

Raising the Profession’s Profile in Your Community
Fall is a great time for individual CPAs and their employers and firms to promote the profession in their communities. Every quarter, TSCPA will provide five ways that you can boost the profession’s profile in your community and make a difference where you live.

Here are five ideas for the fall:

1.            Donate goods or services as a silent auction item for a local school’s annual fundraising effort.

2.            Speak to a group of students about the opportunities available to them when they choose a career in accounting.

3.            Participate in the “Adopt-a-Highway” program, and do your part to keep Texas beautiful.

4.            Sponsor a PeeWee football team in your local league.

5.            Purchase children’s books or school supplies for a school serving an economically disadvantaged neighborhood or community.
