Trying to navigate the always-treacherous political waters in the current reform climate will make this legislative session more difficult for Texas CPAs than any in recent memory ... and the stakes have never been higher. Rumblings out of Austin include:

a ban on all non-audit services for all auditors,

mandatory auditor rotation,

alteration of the peer review process, and

changes to the State Board’s enforcement procedures.

As if that weren’t enough for CPAs to worry about, the state’s budget crisis may compel some lawmakers to consider sales taxes on professional services and franchise taxes on partnerships.

A statewide network of volunteers – TSCPA Key Persons – serves as your voice in Austin. They develop and maintain substantive relationships with legislators, representing the interests of Texas CPAs and helping to protect the certificate.

If you have a relationship with a legislator or would like to learn more about this crucial TSCPA program, contact Linda Messing. (E-mail lmessing@tscpa.net; phone 512-445-0044 ext. 124 or toll-free 877-592-0526 ext. 124.)
