Austin Black Expo Update

The Capital City Chamber is buzzing with excitement for our Black Expo taking place on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Monarch Event Center. On Thursday, September 27th over 50 business professionals joined the Chamber at Ms.B’s for our Black Expo Launch Event. This event was designed to network with other area professionals and to take advantage of a one night only vendor special!
 
If you missed your opportunity to register as a vendor at the Black Expo Launch Event it isn’t too late. You can still register as a vendor by visiting the official Black Expo website at www.austinblackexpo.com. The cost to register as a vendor is only $125 for a business and $75 for a nonprofit or government agency.
 
We are also still accepting applications for step teams and the Soulful Taste of Austin Cook-off. All the information regarding the competition and purchasing participant tickets can be found online at the Black Expo Site. Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir Encourages You To:
Vote Early!


Travis County Elections Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir encourages the residents of Travis County to take advantage of early voting locations for the 2008 General Elections. Travis County is expecting a record 440,000 voters to turn out for this year’s elections. It is expected that 220,000 of the voters will vote early and the remaining 220,000 will wait until Tuesday, November 4th to cast their ballots. Early voting will take place Monday, October 20th through Friday, October 31st. Gneral Elections are Tuesday, November 4th.
 
The county elections division has setup two new “Mega Voting Sites” in both North and South Austin. The North location is at the Travis County Airport Blvd Offices, 5501 Airport Blvd. (Across from the Lames on Airport). The South location is in the West Tower Village, 4534 West Gate Blvd Ste. 115 (Across from the Westgate Cinema). Travis County is also excited to announce the addition of the Carver Complex Voting Site at the Carver Library, 1161 Angelina St.

Media Diversity Council Central Texas Advisory Board’s
4th Annual Best Practices & DiversityFIRST Awards Luncheon


The Central Texas Advisory Board, a member council of the Texas Diversity Council, will host their “4th Annual Best Practices & DiversityFIRSTTM Awards Luncheon” on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, featuring a diverse group of presenters and participants with diverse ethnicities, backgrounds and experiences.  This year’s event will be held at the MCC Building, 3925 West Braker Lane, Austin, TX 78759.  
 
The best practices sessions will be facilitated by Katrina Villarreal, Senior Vice President, Lee Hecht Harrison and Tiffany Hildreth, Partner, Strasburger & Price, LLP. The topics to be presented include “Generational Workforce & Diversity” and “Employment Best Practices” respectively.   Both sessions are free to the public. These concurrent sessions will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at  11:00 a.m. 
 
  The keynote speaker for the luncheon will be former three-term Governor, John G. Rowland, State of Connecticut, who will address the luncheon theme of “The Dynamics and Challenges of Leadership”.  The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Individual registration cost is $99.00 and online registration can be completed at http://www.texasdiversitycouncil.org/CTLuncheon08.html
