CCAACC Set to Host 1st Annual Black Expo

The Capital City African Chamber of Commerce (CCAACC) would like for you to come and join us for the 1st Annual Black Expo and Membership Drive! This event will establish connections between the CCAACC and small businesses while entertaining and serving the community of Austin.
 
Fun for the whole family, this event will include an expo style vendor exhibit, where businesses can showcase their operations goods and services. This event will further our mission in bringing small businesses to greater prosperity through knowledge, by empowering the community in a fun way that will bring better awareness of available resources and improve the outlook of small businesses in Austin.

TCEQ invites HUBs to do Business with them

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) prioritizes its Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) program, and recognizes the importance of outreach.
 
The TCEQ currently utilizes the following services through direct purchases and contracts:
 
·          office equipment
·          safety equipment
·          lab equipment
·          computer equipment and peripherals
·          computer programming and software
·          office machine repair
·          photo developing
·          printing and mailing
·          professional engineering
·          promotional items
 
These are just a few of the many opportunities available for HUBs to do business with TCEQ

Chamber Memember Austin Toros Announce 2008-2009 Schedule










AUSTIN TOROS TO TIPOFF NBA D-LEAGUE SEASON
 THANKSGIVING WEEKEND
- D-League Expands to 16 Teams for Upcoming Season -

 
AUSTIN, TX, Aug. 12, 2008The Austin Toros open the 2008-09 season Thanksgiving weekend with back to back games on Friday, November 28th and Saturday, November 29th when they host the Utah Flash and the Tulsa 66ers respectively at the Austin Convention Center.  Both games are scheduled for a 7:30p.m. tip-off. 
 
The Toros-Flash contest is the first of 50 regular season games for the Toros, 24 of which will take place at the Austin Convention Center. The Toros will also take part in the 2009 NBA D-League Showcase scheduled for January 5-8, 2009 at the McKay Events Center in Orem, Utah.
 
“The Toros are very excited to start the season at home this year. Our team had a great home record last season and the schedule provides several options for fans to see a game early in November and December,” said Toros Chief Operating Officer Billy Widner.

Economic Perspectives Launches Web Blog

Economic Perspectives, the longest running radio show in Texas focused on small business, personal finance, and credit for minority communities has launched a blog (http://econpers.wordpress.com) to keep listeners abreast of upcoming guests and small business and financing resources that can assist them.  Currently the blog features information on the guests planned for the next show, a listing of upcoming guests, and links to small business financing resources in Austin.
 
“This is just a modest beginning for Economic Perspectives, but we plan to expand the links and resources available online in the near future,” says Hopeton Hay, host and producer of Economic Perspectives.  “Our goal is to be the best online resource for information on business, investment, and credit for underserved communities in Central Texas.”
 
Economic Perspectives comes on Mondays, 5:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. on KAZI 88.7FM in Austin, Texas.
 

 

Texas Department of Insurance Host HUB Forum

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) will be hosting its annual Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Forum on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 333 Guadalupe in the Commissioner's Hearing Room (Room 100).  This year's theme is "Building Your Bridge to Opportunity."

We would like to assist you by inviting all HUBs interested in learning more about primary or subcontracting opportunities within the Special Deputy Receiver (SDR) Program.  The primary purpose of the SDR program is to contract out services allowing the prime contractor to either rehabilitate or liquidate an entity placed in receivership. Subcontractors needed to fulfill the subcontracting functions include these professional service areas:  asset management, claims, legal services, reinsurance, accounting, ITS, and audit services.

Humanities Texas Presents:
2008 Humanities Texas Awards


The Humanities Texas Awards recognize imaginative leadership in the humanities on a local, regional, or state level.
 
In 2008, two awards will be presented: one for individual achievement, another for organizational achievement.
 
Nominees might include a local library that has started an especially effective reading and lecture series; a group whose work has advanced heritage tourism efforts; or an individual who has developed a significant public program grounded in history, literature, philosophy, archaeology, folklore, or another humanities discipline.
 
The winning individual and organization will each receive a cash award of $5,000. Nominated individuals must reside in Texas, and organizations must be based in the state.
 
Humanities Texas has extended the nomination deadline to October 1, 2008, to allow additional time for nominations of outstanding individuals and organizations from all regions of the state.
