Capital City Chamber Inaugural Business Awards Luncheon
On Wednesday, June 4 th the Capital City Chamber hosted our Inaugural Business Awards Luncheon at the Monarch Event Center. There were over 150 in attendance to celebrate the success of our member businesses. The Chamber was privilege to have African American television channel TV One ( www.tvoneonline.com) as our presenting sponsor. TV One representative Antoinette Leon discussed the history of TV One and their on-going commitment to provide responsible programming for African American Adults. Flow Idealism Presents a Conversation with Whole Foods CEO John Mackey
For nearly 30 years, John Mackey, CEO of Austin-based Whole Foods Market, has dedicated himself to business principles he calls "conscious capitalism." He will share his insights on Thursday, June 12 at A Conversation on Conscious Capitalism, a benefit event for the FLOW Conscious Capitalism® program. The event will be held at St. David's Episcopal Church, 304 East 7th Street in Austin, from 7-8:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 for general admission, $20 for students, and $100 for priority seating and a post-event reception (with John). Throughout the growth of Whole Foods Market, Mackey has held fast to a mission-driven business model motivated by higher purpose and focused on serving all of its stakeholders as interdependent elements of an integrated system. 1st Annual Sugar Run

The Sugar Run 5K Walk & 1K Run/Walk You are invited to join in the 1st Annual Sugar Run on Saturday, June 14, 2008 starting at 9 a.m. at Yellow Jacket Stadium located at 1169 Hargrave Street (across from the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex). The 1K will take place on the track inside the stadium and the 5K will proceed along Rosewood Avenue and 11th & 12th streets. The primary objective of The Sugar Run is to raise awareness of the benefits of exercise and diet in the prevention of diabetes; as well as encourage an overall healthy lifestyle among African Americans and other communities of color in Central Texas. Individual and team prizes will be given. Proceeds from this event benefit the Alliance for African American Health in Central Texas and East Austin Youth Foundation.
