City of Austin Hosts Free Business Resource Fair for Small Business Owners

The City of Austin wants local entrepreneurs to cash in on one of the year’s best business opportunities. Getting Connected, a business resource fair hosted by the City’s Small Business Development Program, is designed to give small business owners and entrepreneurs access to beneficial information, materials and people who can help them start or expand their business. The Getting Connected Business Resource Fair, an essential event for any small business owner, takes place Thursday, April 10, 2008, from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Palmer Events Center

The Capital City Chamber is proud to announce our Annual Awards & Business Luncheon on Wenesday, June 4, 2008. This luncheon will highlight our members for their accomplishments made over the past year.

TxDOT Establishes Mentor-Protégé Program

The Texas Department of Transportation is committed to providing information to vendors who are seeking to do business with their agency.
 
In an effort to increase small business participation in bidding and performing on TxDOT contracts, the Business Opportunities Programs Office has established the LINC Mentor-Protégé Program. Learning, Information, Network and Collaboration (LINC) is a small business mentoring and business development program in which TxDOT serve as mentors to selected small business protégées.

Register by April 10 to vote in May 10 Municipal Election

The City of Austin reminds voters they must register to vote by April 10, 2008, to participate in the municipal election on May 10, 2008.

Twelve candidates will appear on the May 10 ballot for City Council Places 1, 3 and 4.  The early voting period for the May 10 election will run from Monday, April 28, through Tuesday, May 6.

Eligible voters are citizens of the United States, 18 years of age by Election Day, and not finally convicted of a felony.  Felons must have completed all punishment including term of incarceration, parole, supervision and period of probation or receive a pardon.

Voter application forms are available through the Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office   at www.traviscountytax.org/goVotersRegistration.do or call (512) 854-9473 for more information.
Austin residents of Williamson County can register at www.wilco.org or call (512) 943-1630. 


 

NABA Austin Cen-Tex Host 3rd Annual Luncheon

The National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Inc. is hosting its 3rd Annual Awards & Scholarship Luncheon. The event will be held on Friday, April 25, 2008 from Noon until 2:00pm, at the Omni Hotel Southpark, 4140 Governor’s Row, Austin, Texas. The current sponsors of the 3rd Annual Awards & Scholarship Luncheon are 3M Corporation, Austin Energy, Ernst & Young, Farm Credit Bank of Texas, Freescale Semiconductor, LCRA, PMB Helin Donovan, LLP and Spherion. Keynote speaker for this year is Alan Campbell, Chief Financial Officer for Freescale Semiconductor, addressing NABA’s event theme, “ Ethics: The Gem of Business”. Exhibitors are encouraged to participate and display space will be available between the hours of 11:00am and 2:00pm. The doors open at 11:00am and the luncheon begins at 12:00pm.
