Enjoying Cognac – The Crus

Situated along the Atlantic coast of Southwest France, the Cognac region consists of six sub-regions, or crus, where grapes are grown and harvested. It is from these crus that cognac gets its distinct variety of tastes.

The Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus have chalky soil that produce floral cognacs with lasting taste.

The Fins Bois and Bons Bois crus have hard limestone subsoil that leads to the production of round, supple cognacs with great body.

The Bois Ordinaires has sandy soil that produces cognacs with a highly characteristic local flavor.

Borderies is the smallest of the six crus with a microclimate of its own. The vines that grow in Borderies produce violet-scented grapes that are used only in the best blends. Camus has many acres of land in Borderies, which gives the company the distinct advantage in its production of the finest blends the region has to offer.

Featured Product: Borderies XO

Camus Borderies XO is one of the world’s only single-cru cognacs blended entirely from the rare and aromatic grapes of Borderies. Presented in a unique and elegantly etched-glass bottle, Borderies XO is a decadent treat that pleases all of the senses. Its rich honey color, which is formed during the aging process, is a welcome contrast to the cognac’s floral bouquet that features undertones of hazelnut and vanilla scents. In addition, Borderies XO’s mild oak flavor offers a surprising hint of spiciness that results in a lingering, fresh aftertaste.

Camus Makes a Splash from Coast to Coast

In February, Camus hosted a Valentine’s Day Exploration of Camus Cognac with the Châine des Rotisseurs in Hawaii. Guests gathered at the Formaggio Wine Bar in Honolulu to learn about and share Camus’ premium blends, which were paired with a menu that featured rack of lamb cabernet jus, duck cassoulet and a chocolate addiction flourless cake.

In March and April, Camus’ executives conducted private tastings of Joséphine and Borderies XO and led courses in the six elements of cognac for the staff of Miami’s hotels and restaurants, including the Ritz-Carlton, The Victor Hotel and La Dorada. Camus also showcased its blends at Leon’s Wine & Liquors' annual Spring Wine & Spirits Tasting Extravaganza.

In mid-April, movie industry professionals and celebrities will be treated to complimentary gift bottles of Camus’ Borderies XO at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Also on the schedule is a pouring of Camus’ Borderies XO and VSOP at the opening-night performance of A Streetcar Named Desire at Studio 54.
