Vol. 1 Issue 2

As leaves change colors and winds of autumn sweep across the United States, France celebrates the annual cognac harvest. For Camus, the world’s largest family-owned cognac producer, this Fall marks the continuation of a 150-year tradition of creating the world’s finest blends of cognac and the company's participation in food and wine festivals and charity galas throughout the United States.

In this edition of our e-newsletter, you’ll learn about our signature blends and where you can sample our products in the United States. For more information, please visit www.camus.fr, or contact Laurent Fortin at lfortin@camus-intl.com.

Featured Product: Joséphine
Camus’ Joséphine is a celebration of the senses that is blended and aged to appeal specifically to a woman’s delicate palette.  A blend of more than 80 cognac grapes, predominantly from the Borderies cru, or region, Joséphine is aged for 10 to 15 years in old oak barrels from the Limousin forest to create a sweet, gentle taste with vanilla scent and subtle undertones of chestnut.  Complementing the cognac is its striking packaging that features a romantic, art-nouveau print from Czech artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939).

Camus in the United States

Since arriving stateside earlier this year, Camus’ premium blends have made their way into fine dining establishments, liquor stores and the homes of food and wine connoisseurs.  Throughout the year, Camus has sponsored premier events and organized private tastings for enthusiastic crowds in New York City, Chicago and Atlanta.

Laurent Fortin, Camus' vice president of U.S. sales and marketing (left), presented a bottle of  Camus' Jubilee to Ray Bryant  (middle) at the recent Taste of Atlanta Patrons Party.  Bryant was selected from more than 400 guests who entered to win the anniversary blend in an elegant Baccarat crystal decanter.

More than 1,000 guests at CityMeals-on-Wheels' 18th Annual Great America Chef's tribute to James Beard sampled Josephine cognac

Enjoying Cognac

To thoroughly enjoy the color, aroma and flavors of fine cognac, use a tulip-shaped glass, which enables the aromas to concentrate and release slowly during tasting.

Hold the glass by its base and look from an angle at the surface of the cognac. This is where you can see the true color of the cognac.

Next, smell the cognac a few times by bringing your nose close to the rim of the glass.  You will detect the strongest aromas, which are called 'the montant.'

Swirl the glass gently, wait two or three seconds and bring the glass to your nose to take in the fine bouquet.  The fruity or floral aroma you detect is called the 'second nose.'

Finally, take a small sip and swirl the cognac around in your mouth. It is on the palate that cognac reveals its true identity, its personality and character. Many sensations will emerge, and the cognac will reveal its complexity for your enjoyment.
