Two Win Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics

Two Stanislaus County businesses were honored this month with the MidCal Better Business Bureau’s 2006 Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics.

Steve Cole, CP Riddle, & Bob Barnett (Barnett Heating & Air)

Barnett Heating and Air Conditioning Co. of Riverbank was the winner for medium-sized companies while Community Business College of Modesto won in the small-sized business category. There were no finalists in the large-company category.

The two companies were among four finalists from a field of 17 nominees in the annual awards contest. Both are now eligible to compete in the 2007 international competition sponsored by the Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB) in Arlington VA.

Two Stockton firms received honorable mention awards, M&M Heating and Air and contractor Bob Leonard & Associates.

Companies are judged in four categories—administrative and employee policies; customer and vendor relations; adherence to ethical marketing and advertising standards; and community involvement.

The awards were presented at a luncheon held at Stockton’s Elkhorn Country Club. Steven Cole, president and chief executive officer of CBBB, was the keynote speaker. Mr. Cole and CP Riddle, chairman of the BBB board of directors, made the presentations to the winners.
