HAPPY THANKSGIVING from your Bentley’s Produce Department! Start getting ready for the Holidays by picking up some delicious Sweet Potatoes now in season.   Sweet Potatoes are among the most nutritious foods in the vegetable kingdom.  Not only are they full of Calcium, Potassium, and Vitamins A and C but they taste so good!  As Sweet Potatoes mature, they turn sweeter and even more during storage and when cooked.  Sweet potatoes are a fabulous alternative for regular potatoes.  Serve them baked or mashed as a side with your meals for a nutritious and tasty treat that the whole family will love!   Just in time for the holidays, Cranberries are also in season!  Enjoy their short peak season during this Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Cranberries are an excellent source for Vitamin C, anthocyanins, and antioxidants.  Either added dried to cereal or mixed into blueberry muffins for color and flavor, Cranberries are not only for turkey and make a great addition to baked goods and meals all year round!

There are many varieties of Pears but Anjou, Barlett and Bosc are the most popular.  Anjou Pears are spicy, sweet and juicy making an excellent choice for salads and snacks.  Barletts Pears are one of the most common and popular pears available.  They are very sweet, juicy, and perfect for canning or cooking since they hold their shape and flavor.  Bosc Pears are deliciously sweet with a buttery and nutty flavor.  Having a dense yet tender flesh, these pears are ideal for baking and cooking. 

And, of course, Pears are a wonderful Healthy Choice!  Pears are a good source of Fiber, Potassium and Vitamin C having NO cholesterol, sodium or saturated fat.  So make sure to add some fresh pears to your grocery cart!

Bentley’s Wine Department wants to help you top off your Thanksgiving meal with a perfect wine!  The most important aspect of pairing wine and food together is not the color, but the body.  Delicate or lightly flavored foods work best with light-bodied wines.  Stronger, heavier foods should be paired with medium to full-bodied wines.  The following wine selections will go wonderfully with your Thanksgiving feast:

The Holiday Meal Packages this year are made up of time-tested recipes and top quality ingredients.  The Turkeys are Mary's local Free-Range birds. They are available in sizes that will meet any family's needs.  The Sides are all made fresh in our kitchen with NO trans-fats, MSG, or artificial seasonings.

An herb-butter for basting the turkey will be included.  It's a recipe I have used for years!
