At the peak of our summer season, Cucumbers are a summer’s favorite! Cucumbers are very refreshing. There is truth to the phrase, “Cool as a Cucumber.” Cucumber’s inner temperature is 20° cooler than the outside air! You can add sliced cucumbers to your tossed salads or shredded cucumbers to a mix of dill and sour cream for a tasty dip. Cucumbers also make a great edible garnish to your main dishes or can be added to your vegetable platters.
Green Beans, also having their peak in the summertime, are a fresh option during this month. Green Beans are very easy to cook and require a minimal amount of time. They are best when steamed or stir-fried just until they are tender but still crisp. A great low calorie vegetable, green beans are a good source of calcium, vitamin C, beta-carotene and potassium.
During the month of August, enjoy the best Peaches as they hit the top of their season. These Peaches are so sweet and juicy that you can’t help yourself! From the smooth texture of the skin to the thick juice that pours out from the very first bite, peaches are a summer delicacy. Treat yourself or your family to some fresh slices on ice cream, in cereal, or over pancakes.
Remember, “Fresh makes it best!”
