August is my month to grill. I don’t know what it is about August that makes me want to grill!
One of my personal favorites is the GRILLED VIETNAMESE SANDWICH also know as Banh Mi. This French inspired sandwich has a small dose of heat and a huge amount of flavor. I like this sandwich with a cold beer, an off-dry rose or slightly chilled pinot noir
SUGGESTIONS
• Any wheat ale will do but I like Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat Ale. It has a robust perfume of fresh tangerine flowers and a wonderful citrus finish.
• Handley Rose of Pinot Noir is a great match.
• Marimar Torres Estate Pinot Noir is one of my favorites. |

| A blast of different colors, shapes and sizes make Dahlias our featured flower of the month. Dahlias are summer blooming tubers and make excellent cut flowers. Prepared Foods

Bentley’s Prepared Foods Department has never looked… or tasted better!
I've added a couple of items to our Salad Bar. "Asian Noodle Salad" is dressed with the same dressing I used at Harlands for the Chinese Chicken Salad. Here we are tossing the chicken, vegetables and dressing with angel hair pasta. There's also a refreshing "Jicama/Orange Salad " featuring sweet, crisp jicama, cut into batonettes (little sticks) and tossed with Navel orange slices, sweet red onion and tangy citrus vinaigrette.
In the Cold Case we'll be adding a wonderful “Couscous Salad” with raisins, scallions, apricots, spices and pecans and "Slow Roasted Balsamic Onions." Both are side dishes that make home meals so easy. We have a spicy East Indian Rub for our "Rotisserie Chickens" available upon request (give us a couple of hours) for those who want something with a little zing.

Grocery

Bentley’s Grocery Department is introducing NEW products to its own private label.
Bentley’s Strawberry Preserves is made from vine-ripened California strawberries with pure can sugar (no corn syrups) and then cooked to perfection in small kettles. Delicious on toast, muffins or right out of the jar!
With the fall coming around the corner, Bentley’s Apple Butter will help you welcome the new season. Use it on muffins, bagels, rolls, or even on eggs in the morning and taste the fresh apple flavor!
Our new Bentley’s Cocktail Sauce is the finest made. It contains fresh cabbage, fresh onions, fresh celery horseradish, Californian ground pickled watermelon, spices and other goodies in a tomato base. Use with your favorite fish especially with shrimp cocktail.
For seafood lovers, try Bentley’s Tartar Sauce made with the finest ingredients and a bit spicy. This tartar sauce is like no other. Great with fish and even with french fries. Use it with any seafood.

The Cheese Department

Bentley’s Cheese Department is adding more incredibly delicious cheeses every week! The Italian charmer "La Tur" is still tied with the similar, but very French "Brillat Savarin" as my current favorite guilty pleasure. I hope not one customer misses the joy of tasting these tantalizing cheeses.
Fine Cheese remains possibly the best value in the world of specialty foods. For under $5 for a generous appetizer serving, one can experience the centuries-old phenomenon of nutritious, naturally handcrafted cheese.
Try a new cheese this week. Live a little! And don't forget to ask Doug, our "Cheese Guy" for a sample of the Quince Paste and Fig Jam we've recently stocked to enhance and amplify the flavors of great cheese. |
