The Better Business Bureau wishes to warn its member businesses of a continued and morphing spoofing scam using the BBB name and a variety of false BBB e-mail addresses to entice recipients to access potentially damaging hyperlinks. These attacks have NOT affected the computer system of any BBB nor have any of their data been compromised.
As with most other phishing attacks, the perpetrators have attempted to pose as a respected business to gain the confidence of phishing victims. The BBB is working with authorities to thwart these malicious attacks. Here are the varieties of bogus emails that have circulated to date:
*If you, our LOCAL member, receive a complaint at the Lubbock office, you are faxed or mailed the complaint, unless other arrangements are made.
*If a complaint with your company is emailed from this office to you, it will have your BBB Team member's name and contact information directly available on the letter and the email will come from complaints@bbbsouthplains.org
*Complaints against any local BBB member are NOT sent from a national address; they come directly from this office in Lubbock.
*If you are in doubt about ANY BBB complaint coming to you via email, or any BBB email for that matter, PLEASE contact us at 806.763.5554 or 1.800.658.6156 PRIOR to clicking or responding and we will discern the situation!
If you have received such an email in the last few days, please print it and fax it directly to Nan at 806.763.1419. We are forwarding all copies to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for their investigation.
