BBB Warns of "Bomb threat Scam"

Area businesses should be aware of a new scam involving businesses that receive bomb threats and demand employees make a large deposit into scammer’s bank accounts. Last month a Wal-Mart store in Rhode Island received a threatening phone call. The employees were told to deposit a large sum of money into a bank in order to deactivate the bomb. The call was later determined to be bogus.

Many other businesses through out the country have been targets of a similar scam.
Law enforcement officials have notified the BBB that businesses in the 806 area code could be targets of this scam.

Notify your local police or sheriff's office and the Lubbock office of the FBI at 806.765.8571 immediately if you or someone at your company receives such a threatening phone call.
