Your BBB Recognizes Excellence!
by Cat Eli - Director of Events and Marketing

Congratulations to our 2009 EICS Winners!

On September 24, four local companies received the prestigious Excellence in Customer Service (EICS) award given annually by your Better Business Bureau. These companies submitted their customer service systems, in the form of an application, to a group of independent, professionally trained evaluators in May of 2009. During the last three months, the evaluators carefully compared the applications to benchmarks modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige national quality award. Once the applications passed the test, the evaluators conducted site visits and delved further into the workings of each company’s customer service system.

This year’s recipients are:

·         Champion Windows, Siding, Patio Rooms
·         Endodontic Specialists of Colorado, P.C.
·         Navakai Inc.
·         The WireNut

If you’d like to learn how to submit an application for the 2010 EICS award, please attend our information session on Friday, October 23, 2009. You may also visit www.southerncolorado.bbb.org or contact Cat Eli at 719-636-5076 ext. 100 or eics@bbbsc.org.

Life in the Pikes Peak Region
by Blair Reeves - Director of Operations

On Tuesday, September 15, the Pikes Peak United Way and Leadership Pikes Peak held a joint press conference at the Center of Fine Arts to unveil the 2009 Quality of Life Indicators study for the Pikes Peak Region.

The 120-page publication identifies critical measures or indicators under nine topical areas: economy; social wellbeing; environment; health; education; arts, culture and recreation; transportation; safety; and community engagement.

Your Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado and the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce took the initiative, and for the first time in this publication, presented facts on small businesses. Since small businesses account for 98 percent of all businesses in the Pikes Peak Region, it is important that we support them. The Quality of Life Indicators for the Pikes Peak Region may be downloaded from
http://www.pikespeakqualityoflife.org.

Foundation Facts
by Diane Stevens - Foundation Director

Your BBB of SC Foundation was on the move in September!

First, I gave a presentation about scams that occur in Colorado Springs to the Senior Victim’s Assistance Team, a volunteer group associated with the Colorado Springs Police.

Next I visited Saguache County, where I spoke with Southwest Bank, a BBB accredited business about the benefits of BBB accreditation and our scholarship program.  Next, information about how to use our Web site to learn about current scams and frauds was shared with a wonderful group of senior ladies, who turned out to be pretty savvy already. The Department of Human Services also attended our presentation and it was gratifying to hear that everyone appreciated our visit.

For those of you not familiar with the town of Saguache, it’s located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the beautiful San Luis Valley at an elevation of 7,800 feet.
