BBB Hands Out Grades And Not All Local Businesses Are Passing With Flying Colors!
If you have kids in school, you know how a report card can be a time bomb in a small envelope. Perhaps your child’s report card makes you beam with pride over a long list of A’s. Maybe you offer encouragement to do better in classes where they have gotten C’s. Or, in the case of the D’s or F’s, you dole out a stern lecture and an indefinite grounding sentence. Effective January 1, 2009, you will have a “letter” grade for your report.

Standards For Trust - Codes Of Business Practices For BBB Accredited Businesses
If you’re reading this article, congratulations!  You are a BBB Accredited Business or an employee of a company that has met the requirements to be accredited by the BBB.  The BBB is not a membership club where any company who wants to join can.  Companies must be reviewed and evaluated according to strict ethical guidelines and then approved by our Board of Directors.  The BBB is the leadership for trust in the marketplace.  When we issue a report on a BBB Accredited company, we are reporting that this is a company of integrity and trust who promises to be responsive and transparent and to advertise honestly.  Effective January 1, 2009, all BBB Accredited Businesses will be required to adhere to these standards of trust.

Yes Virginia, There Is A BBB!
by Dottie Callina, Manager Trade Practices

YES, VIRGINIA

Dear Editor,

One of my little friends told me there is no organization set up to promote ethical business practices and trust in the marketplace.  Please tell me the truth.  Is there no one to protect businesses and consumers?

Signed,

Virginia

YES Virginia, there is a BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU!  It lies in the hearts and minds of business men and woman committed to ethical business practices.  It grows each day fostered by consumers calling for pre-purchase information or seeking help with complaints.

It is alive through advertising review, charitable evaluations, media releases and honorable attempts to keep the public aware of current scams and schemes.

You may ask, Virginia, what keeps the BBB going year after year.  It is the courageous business men and woman who believe in ethical business practices and trust and honesty in the marketplace.  People who support the BBB by becoming a BBB Accredited Business.  They are truly the backbone of the BBB system.

So, Virginia, I hope that I have sparked in you a belief that someone cares about integrity, honesty and trust in consumer and business relations.  Keep the faith and thanks for not asking me about Santa!
