Marketing Update
As is the case in every department of THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano, the Marketing Department is going full force. As we get further along this journey of providing Five-Star cardiovascular services to the communities that surround us, it becomes clear that while we are doing great work here, we have so much more to do in our fight against the #1 killer of Americans. As we research heart disease to understand it better and to communicate its dangers, we realize and even continue to be surprised about the prevalence of heart disease.

Quality Update
Sue DorvalQuality in health care is becoming more transparent. In fact, many of today's consumers are basing their decisions on published quality data on health care facilities worldwide. We all work as a team within THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano to ensure that quality and patient safety is an ongoing goal. The Health Care Improvement (Quality) department at THE HEART HOSPITAL is an integral part of the facility and dedicated to tracking, trending and improving the quality of care for our patients. The department also leads the facility's efforts in the collection, analysis, and improvement in nationwide quality indicators pertaining to patient care, best practices and patient safety.

Institute for Cardiovascular Excellence Update
On June 21, 2008, Dr. Deepika Gopal hosted our first community event for the Women’s Cardiovascular Institute with a focus on reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease through diet and exercise. Chef Tearl Friedman offered a heart healthy cooking demonstration with complimentary samples and recipes. His seared scallops with papaya salsa were delicious! Experts from Dietary Services and Cardiac Rehab provided great information to program attendees and complimentary screening assessments including Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist Circumference were offered in the ICI Clinic following the program.

Employee Spotlight
Congratulations to Julie Hartman!
Julie Hartman, Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, was recently selected as a Fellow of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. This honor is given to recipients in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the field of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and to the care of persons with cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. In honor of this achievement, Julie will be honored during a special presentation at the AACVPR 23rd Annual Meeting later this year. Be sure to congratulate Julie when you see her!
