We waste an incredible amount of time on the Internet. Disconnect now! If you want to deliver major results, the net is what’s holding you back more than you realize. We are only half-kidding and realize that this sounds like getting advice from an evangelist from the Industrial Age who turned Luddite on you. But here are 5 tips to free up dozens of hours per week for real results...
1.) Only do your email 1 - 2 times/day and don’t spend more than 20 minutes per session.
2.) Set up folders for your important projects and email from your boss and use the rules - based tools in your email application to automatically route messages from them to these folders. read them when you have down time. If imporatnt folders, they will light up when new mail is in.
3.) Stop surfing the web - it’s like a bad case of ADD- you just keep linking across the web with the illusion of being productive. you probably waste 1/2 to 3 hrs./day on this.
4.) Throw away your Blackberry! That’s right, unless you travel a lot and don’t want to lug a laptop, get rid of it and follow rules #1 and 2 above.
5.) Don’t respond to all emails in real time. Only answer the high payoff urgent, and then follow rule #1. Only insecure ineffective middle managers email back quickly. It’s a sign of a person not in control of their own agenda.
Try this for 90 days. You will be amazed at the increased productivity you get!
