Homeland Security Rule Issued for Critical Infrastructure Information
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued their final rule on their document “Procedures for Handling Critical Infrastructure Information.” The DHS rule finalizes the document that governs the receipt, validation, handling, storage, marking, and use of such information voluntarily submitted to DHS. The final rule enhances the protections accorded to submitters by clarifying many key provisions of the interim rule, thereby encouraging private sector participation in the program. The DHS program is designed to encourage the private industry to voluntarily share their sensitive and proprietary business information with the federal government. DHS will use the information to analyze infrastructure vulnerability, develop risk assessments, and enhance recovery preparedness measures and for other purposes related to preventing terrorist attacks in the United States and reducing the vulnerability of the United States to terrorism
