Annual Golf Tournament
by Doug Colliflower
Time flies and it's a good thing, too, because it brings back one of the most enjoyable (and entertaining) Chamber events of the year - the Annual Golf Tournament. This will be the 11th year that the tournament has been presented. The first mailing announcing the event has already gone out and now it's time to get busy with the work in putting together another solid tournament.
As with any event, the more volunteers available, the better. If you can devote some time and energy to ensuring another successful effort, we would welcome you to join the event planning committee. Please call or drop by the Chamber offices to get involved and for entry forms and information. The Altadena Golf Course is the site for the big tee-off and October 17th is the date. It will provide one of those rare opportunities for you to get teed-off and enjoy every minute of it!

Planning for the October 30th parade and festival are well underway. Several committees have been established and meet regularly for progress reports. Ed Jasnow and Mike Zoeller, of the Rotary Club, are busy coordinating parade activities. This year's festival will be held on the grounds of Eliot Middle School and promises to be the best yet with a whole range of activities and events for the entire family.
A special feature this year will be the "Altadena ArtBreak," produced by The Altadena Arts Council, that will provide a unique venue for showcasing the creative talents of Altadena area public and private school youth. As always, volunteers are needed to assist with the work of the parade and festival planning committee. Next meting will be held on Wednesday, August 10th, 6:00 p.m., at the Chamber office.

Friends of the Arts Awards Event a Hit
by Eugene Stevenson
If you missed The Altadena Arts Council's Second Annual "Friends of the Arts" Awards Event on Saturday, July 17th, you really missed something special. TAAC honored eight of Altadena's "magnificient friends" who, as artists or supporters of the arts, have made substantial contributions to our community's arts and culture. Honorees included Charles Carter, Dr. Yvonne Cole-Meo and the late Jirayr Zorthian, as Altadena's "artists as institutions." Edna Smith, Altadena Historical Society Director of Archives; Juanita DeVaughn, Altadena NAACP's ACT-SO Program Director; Ken Manning and Tom Turner of the Coffee Gallery; the Underground Arts Society's Ben McGinty; Deputy Sam Estrada, Kathy Jiles, and John Tirabasso, originators of the Summer Concert Series, and the Sheriff's Support Group of Altadena received kudos as well. Congressman Adam Schiff, State Senator Jack Scott, Assembly Woman Carol Liu were on and to present commendations to the honorees as was representatives from Supervisor Mike Antonovich's office. The event also fantastic, eclectic musical program, consisting of classical, jazz, and new world pieces. Good music, good food, good works of art, a gallery environment, great people. As we said, you REALLY missed it! But..., there's more to come.
