Antarctica, the Disney film that captured the imagination of Smithers last winter, has been renamed "8 Below" by the Disney Studios. During the Northern BC Film Commission "Film Forum" held last month in Prince George, it was announced that a name change had taken place. Reason cited was that Disney wants to 'trademark' the title for marketing reasons. And being the name of a 'continent', trademarking Antarctica wasn't possible.
Look for the release of "8 Below" February 27th of 2006. We won't likely see "8 Below" in our theater at that time. But Karen Cameron, Film Commissioner for Northern BC, is working on a 'premiere' for Smithers as a date close to the 27th. Stay tuned for more info on "8 Below".
