Capitol Steps
by State Rep. Ken Paxton

Rep. Paxton explains how Texas highways are funded and states "I have recently received a large number of calls and emails from many of you regarding the tolling of State Highway 121.  Some of you have told me you are adamantly opposed to this proposal, while others have expressed a desire to have the road tolled so the construction will be completed in a more reasonable timeframe."  Rep. Paxton also discusses the Governor's Volunteer Awards.  "The OneStar Foundation is now accepting nominations for the Governor's Volunteer Awards as part of its Volunteer Services Initiative.  Texans are known for their kindness to their neighbors and for lending a hand to individuals in need. And so, for the last 23 years, the Foundation has recognized many of these compassionate volunteers and a number of community organizations for their service to Texas with these awards."

The County Line
by County Commissioner Joe Jaynes

In 2005, Collin County completed its first year of our 10-year plan of upgrading all of our county roads to asphalt. In past years, Public Works averaged 17 miles per year in road upgrades. Our goal for 2005 was to upgrade 50 miles. I’m happy to report that we exceeded that goal by upgrading 56 miles of roads last year from rock to asphalt.
