Capitol Steps
by State Rep. Ken Paxton

House members continue to debate legislation on the floor of the House. No bill can become a law until it has been through the legislative process in both the House and Senate and is signed by the Governor. This month Rep. Paxton discusses changes to Concealed Handgun Licenses, recent resolutions that have been heard in the House that put into perspective what it really means to sacrifice oneself for the benefit of others and the extremely difficult task of finding a school finance system that will provide property tax relief while allocating more money for education.

The County Line
by County Commissioner Joe Jaynes

Even though it is south of the county line, the Dallas High Five is a project that affects almost everyone in Collin County. Construction of this project is managed by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) which has contracted Zachry Construction Corporation to build a $261 million, 5-level, interchange at US 75 and LBJ Freeway. This project began in January, 2002 and is scheduled to be completed in January, 2007. The good news is that the project is one year ahead of schedule and is 85 percent complete. This means that by December, 2005 the High Five will be up with all lanes and ramps open to traffic. When completed, the High Five will allow for a total of 8 lanes of travel for US 75. It will also have 10 lanes of travel with 4 HOV lanes for LBJ.
