Chairman's Message

There is probably going to be an alcohol election in Allen within the year. On September 1st, the law changed making it much easier to get these kinds of proposals on the ballot. A political action committee has been formed and they are attempting to place proposals on the February 7, 2004 ballot. There are actually three different proposals that can be voted on: beer and wine sales, elimination of the private club requirement for restaurants and liquor stores.

Al Holmes Appointed to Board
Bob Rothe, Chairman of the Board, recently appointed Al Holmes of Optymize to serve an unexpired term on the Board of Directors. Business After Hours
There will be two Business After Hours mixers during October. The first one is scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2003 at Staples, 812 W. McDermott and the second is scheduled for Thursday, October 30, 2003 at Community Credit Union, 225 S. Custer (McDermott and Custer). Both events will be held from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Please come out and support your fellow Chamber members and...remember to bring lots of business cards!

Nothing But Networking Luncheon
The Chamber will host a Nothing But Networking Luncheon on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. at Brazos Cattle Company. A buffet lunch will begin promptly at 11:30 and then the tables will be cleared at noon for a solid hour of...nothing but networking! The cost is $15 for members and $20 for prospective members. Lunchbox Learning Series
The Chamber's next Lunchbox Learning Series will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2003 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn. Mike Mirau of Personnelity Performance Solutions will present information on Goal Setting for Success. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for prospective members. Eggs & Issues Breakfast
Featuring County Commissioner Joe Jaynes
County Commissioner Joe Jaynes will be our guest speaker at the October 24th Eggs & Issues Breakfast. Commissioner Jaynes will address the county bond election which,if passed, will provide $142 million for roads, $11 million for facilities and $76 million for courts. Included in the road projects are some for Allen. The election will be held on November 4, 2003. See attached flyer for registration information or contact the Chamber.

Leadership Allen Class XV
The Leadership Allen Class XV developed a real sense of teamwork at their orientation retreat at Camp Summit on September 20-21. The class spent the weekend together and particpated in a ropes course and leadership training sessions. The class has 17 members and had 100% participation at the orientation program.

Chamber Hosts Blood Drive
The Allen Chamber of Commerce will host a blood drive on Monday, November 24, 2003. Representatives from Carter BloodCare will have a mobile unit in the Chamber's parking lot from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. To make an appointment, contact Carol Rodgers at 972-727-5585. The need for blood is critical and your donation could help save a life during the holiday season.

Business II Business Expo
The 2003 Business II Business Expo was a big success thanks to our sponsors and exhibitors. Approximately 50 exhibitors participated in the event that was held on Thursday, September 18, 2003 at the Hilton Garden Inn. Over 200 Chamber members from Allen, Frisco, McKinney and Plano attended the Business After Hours that was held that same evening.

Twin Creeks Medical Center
JaRyCo breaks ground on new facility
JaRyCo Development, LLC recently broke ground on the first phase of a three-building, medical office complex. The initial building, Twin Creeks Medical Center One, a two-story, 36,000 square foot building is located in close proximity to Presbyterian Hospital of Allen providing convenient access for physicians in the building.

North Texas Solar Tour October 11, 2003
The Dallas Fort Worth local chapter of the Texas Solar Energy Society, the North Texas Renewable Energy Group, will host a Solar Tour on October 11, 2003. The tour will start at the Roy Lee Walker Elementary School in McKinney at 9:30 a.m. The American Institute of Architects named Walker to the Top 10 list for Most Environmentally Responsible Design Projects in the Nation. The next several stops will show Passive Solar Home designs in Fairview, Frisco and Dallas.
