Chairman's Message
by Sheila McKinney, Presbyterian Hospital of Allen
At a recent board meeting discussion was held on how to
communicate the Chamber’s benefits and programs more effectively to our
membership. I know that Chamber staff
work really hard to develop, host, coordinate and execute any number of
opportunities that can be of great benefit to those who choose to
participate. For example, the Business
Builders mini-seminars/interactive workshops that are held on the first
Thursday of each month were a direct result of feedback provided to members of
our Strategic Planning Marketing Committee and have become one of the more well
attended educational opportunities.
However, there is still room for improvement. Improvement in attendance at these workshops means more
information provided to a greater number of our members.
I’ve heard many members say they need to market their
business more effectively and wonder how to do so when there are any number of
events that would provide them with inexpensive and generally free exposure to
40-60 prospective customers each month.
The Chamber provides very reasonable advertising options on weekly
communiqués, monthly e-newsletters, quarterly member to member direct mailing
programs and of course, year-round twenty-four/seven exposure on the website.
We are all busy and certainly many of us creatures of habit
– both very good excuses, not reasons, for not taking advantage of the programs
available. I’ve heard it said many
times, and tend to agree, that so many people are too busy working in the
business to work on their business. May
I suggest that you take a break from your regular routine and attend Tuesday
Morning Live, a Business Builders workshop, or an upcoming luncheon or
breakfast.
Remember, the world belongs to those who participate.
