STATE OF TEXAS OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

Through the innovative and determined spirit of hardworking Texans, the Lone Star State has achieved excellence and prosperity.

Texas has enjoyed continued success, in large part due to the energy, entrepreneurship and standards of expectation and achievement set by Chambers of Commerce. For more than 75 years, they have provided tools to help businesses excel and, in so doing, they contribute immeasurably toward building strong, vibrant business climates in communities across the state.

The Texas Association of Business estimates that there are more than 200 local chambers that represent 140,000 employers statewide. To highlight the importance of these chambers and their many contributions, the Texas Association of Business annually designates one week in October for an awareness campaign.

At this time, therefore, I encourage all Texans to recognize the many contributions of Chambers of Commerce, which have helped to lay the foundation of the Texas of today. Daily, they are helping to build the foundation for tomorrow.

Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim October 13-17,2003,

Chamber of Commerce Week

in Texas, and urge the appropriate recognition whereof.

In official recognition whereof, I hereby affix my signature this the 18th day of September, 2003.
