The Allen Chamber's Business Appreciation Week, co-sponsored by the Allen Economic Development Corporation and Inside Collin County Business, was a whirlwind of activities for chamber members and guests. The Millennium Awards Luncheon featuring Don Daseke, founding chairman of Sage Telecom and current board member, highlighted accomplishments of the Allen Economic Development Corporation and provided the opportunity for the AEDC to honor Allen businesses.
The recipients are recognized for their impact on the local economic growth and contributions to the community. The awards were presented in four categories. Jack Henry & Associates received the award for the National Corporate/ Manufacturing Category. Chamber Chairman Izzie Waller presented American National Bank with the award for Local Independent Business. Allen Premium Outlets was honored at this year’s winner of the AEDC Millennium Award in the Retail Category. The Individual Award was presented to Dr. E. T. Boon by Mayor Steve Terrell.
Bill Hammond, President of the Texas Association of Business (TAB,) was the keynote speaker at the Eggs and Issues Breakfast. The breakfast was co-sponsored by the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hammond stressed the need to support legislators that are pro-business. He discussed major issues that will be addressed in the next legislative session and how they may affect doing business in Texas.
The Business Finance Luncheon, sponsored by American National Bank of Texas, featured guest speaker Jason Saving, an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas. He discussed current issues affecting the economy and offered his opinions for the future.
Members from area chambers in Collin County attended the Business After Hours co-sponsored by The Hilton Garden Inn/Allen, the Dallas Morning News and Bank One. A quartet from the Allen Philharmonic Symphony provided the entertainment for the evening. Guests enjoyed the music while visiting with the exhibitors of the Business Expo. Approximately 25 exhibitors filled the ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn and displayed their products/services.
The Business Expo provided an opportunity for exhibitors to promote their businesses with each other and the public. A children's area featuring a bounce house courtesy of Metroplex Gymnastics and other activities was set up outside. In addition, Carter BloodCare was on hand taking donations to replenish their blood bank.
