The Chamber is proud to present Clarice Tinsley, News Anchor with Fox 4 News, as our guest speaker at the October 15, 2002 Membership Luncheon. The luncheon will be held at Brazos Cattle Company and will begin at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $15 per member/$20 non-members.
Tinsley is proud to call Dallas and KDFW FOX 4 her two homes for more than 20 years. She was born in Detroit and fell in love with journalism in the 5th grade. She graduated Wayne State University with a B.A. in Radio/TV/Film, and a double minor in Journalism and Humanities.
Six months after graduation from college she moved to Milwaukee to join WITI-TV as a reporter. She worked there 3-1/2 years -- working six days a week, co-anchoring the Noon news weekdays and the Saturday evening news. She also produced and co-hosted two public affairs shows.
In November, 1978, she moved to Dallas to accept a fantastic opportunity to anchor the 6 and 10PM news at KDFW FOX 4. She says, "It's a job I'm proud to have. I've come into contact with some fascinating people, and I've been privileged to cover some memorable stories. I flew to Berlin and covered the fall of the Wall and it's impact here in North Texas -- that was an incredible assignment. In 1991, I was the only local anchor to fly to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to cover Texas troops in the Persian Gulf.
Of the awards I've won (including an Emmy and a Dupont), the one of which I'm most proud is the George Foster Peabody award. I won it for story I did about a Dallas man who called for an ambulance for his dying step-mother, and instead he got arguments and delays. The ambulance was dispatced after his third call to Dallas EMS. His stepmother had already died by then. Because of that story, Dallas' EMS system changed the way it responds to medical emergencies."
Tinsely is married to Stephen and has a step-son in college. She loves to collect art and enjoys movies, plays, music, dancing, traveling and having fun.
